I have a favorite handbag. Last year, my host family sent me Christmas presents from California. Now my (real) family don't give me Christmas presents so my host family is only one who give me Christmas presents.
This blog is the work of the Advanced Writing class at the University of Shimane. This is a learning blog, so there are bound to be errors, confusion, and occasional misunderstandings. This is all part of the process... This is the first time for these students to write in English for anyone other than their teachers, so please be kind. ;^)

My favorite holiday
I like New Year's Day (January 1st) because there are many interesting events on this holiday. I'd like to tell you two of my favorite event on Japanese New Year's Day.
In Japan, most of the families eat Osechi-ryori. Osechi-ryori is traditional food which is put in square lunch boxes. Some of Japanese people buy it and others make it by themselves. There are many kinds of Osechi-ryori in these days. For example, Japanese traditional Osechi, Disney character's Osechi, French Osechi which hotels sell and so on. I heard that most of the families made Osechi by theirselves because stores were closed on New Year's Day when my mother was child. But we can buy Osechi and we can try many kinds of Osechi every year.
There are interesting events on Japanese New Year's Day so I love this holiday. Do you do anything special on New Year's Day in your country?

Fukubukuro (Lucky bag) is also Japanese New Year's Day custom. Many department stores sell Fukubukuro. There are many things (usually cloths or accessories) in Fukubukuro but we can't see what are in Fukubukuro. So it's really exciting to open Fukubukuro after buying it. The things put in Fukubukuro are usually 50% or more off than list price. So many women go to department stores and they line up in front of them. I'm one of these people.

Daily life
Thursday is my busiest day in a week. I don't have many classes but on Thursday I have 3 classes and 2 part-time jobs.
On Thursday I get up at 8:00 and I leave home at 8:50. I have English class from 9:05 to 10:40. After finishing the class, I go to my teacher's office and I do part-time job. I'm planing to go to Vietnam in this winter vacation with my teachers and friends so I often make contact with a travel agency at his office. After my part-time job I have 30 minutes lunch time. I eat a quick lunch and go to another part-time job as assistant of freshman's English class at university of Shimane. This part-time job finish at 14:50 and I hurry to the next class room to take statistics class. I'm not good at using computer so it's hard for me to study statistics but if I can understand I feel happy! After statistics class finished, I can't go back my home. I have advanced English writing class. I love this class because I can study about you and tell you about Japan and my life!
After taking all of the classes for Thursday, I go back to my dormitory and I clean up the dorm with my friends. I study Chinese for Friday and I go to bed. It's my busiest day in a week. I'm busy but I have lots of fun on Thursday. So I like my busiest day, Thursday.

Nice to meet you!
Hello. My name is Emi. I'm 19 years old. I'm from Hiroshima but I live in the Shimane now. I'm a student of University of Shimane.
I like to travel abroad and I've been the United States four times. In this August, I went to Monterey and San Francisco CA to study English and American culture. I also like to see American movies so if you have favorite movies please tell me. :)
