My Favorite Movie

A Story of Tokyo(東京物語) Is one of the best work of Yasujiro Ozu(小津安二郎 1903-1963). do you know him? Maybe young people doesn't know him even in Japan. But he have been loved for a long time even in other country. He is a unparalleled movie director, I bet.
Ozu is a genius of describing a Japanese daily-life in Syowa days(昭和). The style of Ozu's films are calm, quiet and daily-like. Stories go forward like a flow of the river. So, also in A Story of Tokyo, there is nothing special and anything dramatic happened. But there is a real of human being, I think. Love, considerate, selfishness or confusion.

The following photo is my Ozu's DVD. The front one in the photo is A Story of Tokyo, and the back one is The Taste of a Saury(秋刀魚の味). These were put on sale in this year as a series of the Yasujiro Ozu Movie Best Selection. It shows that Ozu is still popular among Japanese people, I think. My friend said to me he have watched these movies over 100 times while his life 48years!

Nearly 50years have passed since Ozu died, and Japanese life-style has changed greatly while this period. But the world of Ozu doesn't lose its value and brilliancy.
I don't know you guys think this movie is good or boring. And maybe it's hard to understand this movie completely without enough understanding of Japanese spirits and culture. But you can see one vanishing side and one still-existing side of Japan in this movie.
Please watch it if you interested in. And if you do, please tell me your thinks!
